BBL 2021/22: Melbourne Stars Signs Sam Rainbird For Next Edition

Melbourne Stars on Tuesday signed Tasmania bowler Sam Rainbird for the 11th edition of the Big Bash League, Australia’s T20 tournament.

The 29-year-old left-arm pacer joined Stars last season after playing 19 matches for Hobart Hurricanes. Rainbird played as an injury replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile and picked five wickets in as many games.

Rainbird is yet to play for Australia and he said that he is excited to play for Stars in the upcoming season as he enjoyed playing for them in his short stint.

“I am pretty excited to be linking up with the Melbourne Stars ahead of the upcoming KFC BBL season,” Rainbird was quoted as saying by Melbourne Stars’ official website.

“I enjoyed my stint with the club last season and the Stars have always been a great outfit in the BBL. I’m looking forward to catching up with the players and coaches ahead of the upcoming season and taking to the field this summer,” he added.

Melbourne Stars head coach David Hussey, who was the former captain of the franchise, welcomed Rainbird to the team and said his addition will provide Stars with plenty of bowling options.

“We’re glad to have Sam on board again this season and he gives us options in our bowling unit. As we know, the BBL is an intense competition and a range of pace options will be important,” Hussey said.

“Our squad is starting to come together now which is great, with a few more additions to come, and we can’t wait to welcome some new faces and get into the season,” he added. 

Melbourne Stars are yet to win the Big Bash League despite playing the final three times.
