IND vs ENG: India ODI Squad vs England (Predicted)

India National Cricket Team, ICC T20 World Cup 2021

Team India is set to kick off the England tour at the end of this week when they play the rearranged fifth Test from last year’s tour, which will not only determine the results of the five-match series but will also show them a mirror for the roadmap ahead in the WTC 2021-23 cycle.

Just after the conclusion of the one-off Test, India will turn into the blue colours to play the white-ball leg comprising three T20 Internationals followed by as many ODI matches.

All six white-ball fixtures between England and India will be held at different venues in the United Kingdom. Both the teams have already announced their squads for the rescheduled fifth and final Test in Birmingham but they are yet to reveal their white-ball squads.

England will obviously see a change in the white-ball leadership after veteran skipper Eoin Morgan announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday (June 28).

India will also play under the leadership of Rohit Sharma for the first time in England. However, the Indian skipper isn’t certain to play the one-off Test after contracting the virus last week and is going under an isolation period. India will miss the services of injured players KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav with Ruturaj Gaikwad being the latest to add to the list.

India last played the ODI series against West Indies at home, where they clean swept the Kieron Pollard & co 3-0 after suffering a whitewash at the hands of South Africa in their last overseas ODI series earlier in January.

Let us look at India’s predicted 15-member ODI squad.

Rohit Sharma is likely to be fit by the time India starts the three-match ODI series on July 12. This would be the first overseas assignment for the 35-year-old in the 50-over format as India captain after he missed the ODI series against South Africa at the start of the year due to a hamstring injury.

Rohit has amassed 9238 runs in 230 ODI matches and 544 of those runs have been scored against England. Rohit will take a leaf from his magnificent 2019 World Cup experience, where he scored five centuries in the showpiece event in England and finished as the leading run-scorer with 648 runs at an average of 81.

In Terms Of Personality, MS Dhoni, Eoin Morgan Are Very Calm And Loyal To Their Players: Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali, an all-rounder for England, compared the leadership philosophies of MS Dhoni and Eoin Morgan. Moeen, who played for both of them, claimed that there is not much difference between these two World Cup champion captains.

Eoin Morgan, the World Cup-winning leader of England, decided to hang up his game on Tuesday, ending a historic career following a disastrous stretch of play that showed no signs of improving.

When asked about the leadership philosophies of Morgan and CSK captain MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali responded that he had played for both. There is not much of a difference with Moeen.
In terms of ICC titles, Dhoni continues to be India’s most successful captain. Morgan continues to be the only captain in England’s cricket history to have assisted the side in winning an ODI World Cup championship.

“I have played under Morgan. I have also played under MS Dhoni. In terms of personality, they are both very calm and loyal to their players. “Brilliant captain, brilliant player,” Moeen said in an interview with Sports Today.

‘Eoin Morgan changed the mindset of the players’: Moeen Ali

When asked what Eoin Morgan’s biggest achievement was, Moeen emphasized how the southpaw changed the team’s attitude in white-ball cricket.

“Before that, we were dreadful at white-ball cricket. He shifted the players’ perspectives. I believe that the way England is playing now in Test cricket is due to him. He demonstrated that if you have the right mindset, you can play fearless cricket, which is what we are doing right now,” said the all-rounder.

Moeen Ali has retired from Test cricket but continues to represent England in the two white-ball formats.

Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar highlighted the importance of playing a warm-up match before playing a series in the countries like England, Australia, South Africa and the West Indies and said that he is expecting India to do well as they have already played a warm-up match.

India National Cricket Team played a 4-day warm-up match against Leicestershire at the Grace Road, Leicester ahead of the rescheduled Test against England.

Meanwhile, former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar said that India are aware of the fact that only one game is remaining in the Test series and the victory in the match would help them seal their first Test series win in England since 2007.

“In the last tour, India did not play any warm-up matches before they played that first Test. If you tour countries like England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies you have to play some games before you play the Tests to get acclimatised,” Vengsarkar told a select group of reporters.

“That is why we lost that first game. But now they have played a warm-up match and so I expect them to do well. They also know that there is only one match left now. If they win that, they win the series straightaway,” he said.

Test matches are a five-day affair and the T20s are different completely – Dilip Vengsarkar

England National Cricket Team have adopted an aggressive batting approach under skipper Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. The new approach has helped them register a dominant win over New Zealand in the recently concluded 3-match Test series.

Meanwhile, Vengsarkar feels that Test cricket is completely different from T20 cricket and the aggressive batting approach will not always help a team to win games.

“Test matches are a five-day affair and the T20s are different completely. You can’t do the same kind of batting in both unless you have to win the match in the end, which England did in the last Test match. But that is very rare, every session in a Test match is important. You have to plan things in Test cricket, skills matter a lot. Mental toughness also matters,” he said.

The 5th and last Test match of the series between India and England, which was cancelled last year, will be played at the Edgbaston, Birmingham from Friday, July 1. Also, India have a 2-1 lead in the Test series.
