Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar highlighted the importance of playing a warm-up match before playing a series in the countries like England, Australia, South Africa and the West Indies and said that he is expecting India to do well as they have already played a warm-up match.

India National Cricket Team played a 4-day warm-up match against Leicestershire at the Grace Road, Leicester ahead of the rescheduled Test against England.

Meanwhile, former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar said that India are aware of the fact that only one game is remaining in the Test series and the victory in the match would help them seal their first Test series win in England since 2007.

“In the last tour, India did not play any warm-up matches before they played that first Test. If you tour countries like England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies you have to play some games before you play the Tests to get acclimatised,” Vengsarkar told a select group of reporters.

“That is why we lost that first game. But now they have played a warm-up match and so I expect them to do well. They also know that there is only one match left now. If they win that, they win the series straightaway,” he said.

Test matches are a five-day affair and the T20s are different completely – Dilip Vengsarkar

England National Cricket Team have adopted an aggressive batting approach under skipper Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. The new approach has helped them register a dominant win over New Zealand in the recently concluded 3-match Test series.

Meanwhile, Vengsarkar feels that Test cricket is completely different from T20 cricket and the aggressive batting approach will not always help a team to win games.

“Test matches are a five-day affair and the T20s are different completely. You can’t do the same kind of batting in both unless you have to win the match in the end, which England did in the last Test match. But that is very rare, every session in a Test match is important. You have to plan things in Test cricket, skills matter a lot. Mental toughness also matters,” he said.

The 5th and last Test match of the series between India and England, which was cancelled last year, will be played at the Edgbaston, Birmingham from Friday, July 1. Also, India have a 2-1 lead in the Test series.

Former England spinner Graeme Swann has talked about the changes in England cricket after Ben Stokes became the Test captain and Brendon McCullum became the Test head coach.

In the new era, under Stokes and McCullum, England managed to register a dominant win over World Test Champions New Zealand at home. Notably, England won all three games of the Test series by dominantly chasing the target.

England will next lock horns with India in the 5th and last Test match of the series, which was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the Indian camp. The one-off Test will be played at the Edgbaston, Birmingham from Friday, July 1.

In an interview, the former England spinner was asked about the impact of Stokes and McCullum on England cricket and the difference between the current England team and the team that played against India in the fourth Test last year.

“It is almost entirely in the head, players like Ollie Pope will be unrecognisable from the Pope that played last against India. He has just scored two hundreds, is very aggressive, very confident. Joe Root with the burden of captaincy gone is batting gorgeously,” Graeme Swann was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Swann further said that the mindset of the England Test team has changed drastically and it is no more negative and defence-oriented. He also mentioned that previously the England Test team used to pick the “wrong team all the time”.

“It is the mindset: before it was very negative, defence-oriented. They were picking the wrong team all the time, the Ahmedabad Test (March 2021) when they went with one spinner on the craziest turning pitch I had seen.

“I was licking my lips (that) we could at least have five spinners playing this game, over the two teams. England went in with four seamers because it seamed around in the nets. This England is more clued in to try and win Test matches, rather than see what happens,” he said.

Ravindra Jadeja Has Got Good Brain, He Potentially Could Be Good Leader – Moeen Ali Backs All-rounder After Awful IPL 2022 Campaign

MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja

Senior England National Cricket Team all-rounder Moeen Ali has said that the India National Cricket Team star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has got a good brain and he could become a successful skipper in future.

On March 24, just a few days before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 commenced, legendary captain MS Dhoni decided to hand over the CSK captaincy to Jadeja.

However, Chennai Super Kings struggled under Jadeja’s captaincy as they won only 2 games and faced 6 defeats and Jadeja’s form with bat and ball also took a massive hit. So Jadeja decided to hand back the captaincy to Dhoni, in the middle of the season, to focus more on his game.

Speaking to Sports Today, Moeen Ali said that Jadeja failed as a skipper in the IPL 2022 because CSK as a team were failing to perform. He added that there is not much difference between Dhoni and Jadeja in terms of characteristics.

“He’s (Jadeja) inexperienced in terms of captaincy and leading CSK was tough for him this year because we weren’t playing well as a team. But he has got a good brain and he potentially could be a good leader in the future,” he said.

“I have played under him. I have played under MS Dhoni as well. There is not much difference between both of them in terms of the characteristics – very calm, very loyal to their players. Brilliant captain, brilliant player,” he further added.

He changed the mindset of the players – Moeen Ali on Eoin Morgan

Moeen Ali was further asked about the impact of revolutionary England white-ball captain Eoin Morgan, who recently announced his retirement.

Ali said that the former England captain changed the mindset of the players and the reason behind England’s recent success in Test cricket under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum is actually Eoin Morgan.

“We were horrendous in white-ball cricket before that (2015 World Cup). He changed the mindset of the players. Actually, the way England are playing now in Test cricket, I believe, is actually because of him. He showed that if you have the mindset, you can play fearless cricket, which we are playing now,” Ali said.
