IND vs ENG: Ajit Agarkar Explains Why India Do Not Need To Match England’s Style Of Play

Ajit Agarkar

Beginning on Friday, July 1, the fifth Test between India and England will take place at Edgbaston in Birmingham. England enters the tournament having destroyed New Zealand 3-0 in a three-match Test series, and the team has displayed an excellent aggressive style of cricket.

Ajit Agarkar, a former Indian pacer, says that visitors should not attempt to play England’s style since they are capable of defeating England. He said that our bowlers will be more difficult for England to stop since they have more weapons at their disposal than New Zealand’s.

Indian Team Will Play The Way They Know How To Play: Ajit Agarkar

“I do not know, why would India try and match with the way England are playing, England were 55/6 in the first innings against New Zealand and then they had a couple of good innings.

“India will play the way they know how to play, you don’t have to necessarily match someone, at the end of the day you want to play better than the other team. India, at the moment, are 2-1 up in the series so the pressure is on England to try and level the series.

I do not necessarily think that India will try and match England, they will play their own way. If they play well enough, they are good enough to beat England,” said Agarkar in a select media call organised by Sony Sports Network.

Indian Bowling Attack Better Than New Zealand’s: Ajit Agarkar

In response to a query from NDTV about how difficult it would be for England to pursue Indian bowlers, Agarkar said: “Look, they are terrific players (Bairstow and Stokes). Stokes is a world-class all-rounder, and Bairstow has found some form in the last couple of Tests.

But Root is still their main batter. If India can dismiss Root early, but there is no doubt, if you compare New Zealand with India’s attack, India has probably more to their attack and it would not be that easy to take them down.”

“Especially with the situations England were in most Tests, earlier on if India can put themselves in that situation, getting early wickets, it will be a little harder to take down India like they did with New Zealand.

England has had three Tests so they are a bit more battle-hardened but India has some serious quality in their attack so it would not be easy for England,” he added.

Ajit Agarkar Prefer Cheteshwar Pujara Or Hanuma Vihari In Indian XI If Rohit Sharma Is Not Fit

Finally, Agarkar said that if Rohit Sharma is unable to recover from COVID-19 in a timely manner, he would prefer Cheteshwar Pujara or Hanuma Vihari to start in the Indian side.

“I know KS Bharat got some runs in the warm-up game. The team management will have a look at how prepared Mayank Agarwal is once he joins the team. I do not know if he has enough time to prepare for the Test, especially the one-off Test, I believe experience might help, if it is Pujara or Vihari.

“Vihari has already opened for India a couple of times. One of those two would be my picks, it is better to go with a little more experience because it is a one-off Test,” said Agarkar.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Planning Annual Three-Nation T20I Series: Reports

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)

In the new Future Tours Program of the ICC, which spans from 2023 to 2027, the Pakistan Cricket Board is developing a project to host an annual three-nation T20 series alongside Australia and England.

The suggested idea is anticipated to be presented during the ICC meetings set to take place in Birmingham during the Commonwealth Games, according to a credible source familiar with the situation. PCB chairman Ramiz Raja.

According to reports, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja will present the proposed plan at the ICC meetings planned for Birmingham during the Commonwealth Games.

“The board is starting to work on the strategy, which is an alternative to the four-nation annual event proposed by Ramiz at the last ICC meeting, which did not receive the necessary support from other representatives and has been quashed,” the source said.

Pakistan Cricket Board has good personal relations with BCCI: Ramiz Raja

Given the already-existing political and diplomatic ties between Pakistan and India, as well as the Indian Cricket Board’s lackadaisical approach to the four-nation proposal, he claimed the PCB has now omitted India from their proposed program and only retained Australia and England.

“It will soon be figured out how to locate a brief opening for the tri-series, and Ramiz believes it can be done every year. The source claimed that Ramiz may effectively pitch his tri-series idea by using any request made by the Indian board to extend the window for its IPL at the ICC conference.”

“Pakistan Cricket Board has good personal ties to BCCI President Saurav Ganguly and other board heads, and he is quiet convinced the tri-series plan can be carried out by next year.”

According to the source, Ramiz had discussed the proposal with the ECB and Cricket Australia’s top executives while they were in Pakistan, and the reaction was favourable.

In the new FTP, “Ramiz firmly believes that bilateral series do not seem to have a particularly bright future.

The planned idea is anticipated to be presented during the ICC meetings set to take place in Birmingham during the Commonwealth Games by PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja.

Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar highlighted the importance of playing a warm-up match before playing a series in the countries like England, Australia, South Africa and the West Indies and said that he is expecting India to do well as they have already played a warm-up match.

India National Cricket Team played a 4-day warm-up match against Leicestershire at the Grace Road, Leicester ahead of the rescheduled Test against England.

Meanwhile, former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar said that India are aware of the fact that only one game is remaining in the Test series and the victory in the match would help them seal their first Test series win in England since 2007.

“In the last tour, India did not play any warm-up matches before they played that first Test. If you tour countries like England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies you have to play some games before you play the Tests to get acclimatised,” Vengsarkar told a select group of reporters.

“That is why we lost that first game. But now they have played a warm-up match and so I expect them to do well. They also know that there is only one match left now. If they win that, they win the series straightaway,” he said.

Test matches are a five-day affair and the T20s are different completely – Dilip Vengsarkar

England National Cricket Team have adopted an aggressive batting approach under skipper Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. The new approach has helped them register a dominant win over New Zealand in the recently concluded 3-match Test series.

Meanwhile, Vengsarkar feels that Test cricket is completely different from T20 cricket and the aggressive batting approach will not always help a team to win games.

“Test matches are a five-day affair and the T20s are different completely. You can’t do the same kind of batting in both unless you have to win the match in the end, which England did in the last Test match. But that is very rare, every session in a Test match is important. You have to plan things in Test cricket, skills matter a lot. Mental toughness also matters,” he said.
