Both teams are led by celebrated captains who themselves did not have the best season with the bat. SRH finished eighth on the points table and CSK ninth. In fact, the bottom three teams in the points table have a total of 10 IPL titles between them.
IPL 2023 will be played between April-May next year. However, before that, there will be a mini-auction where teams will release a few of their extra players to save up money to buy new players. This gives Chennai a chance to pick some of the best players from other teams. In this article, we take look at three SRH that CSK can target in IPL 2023.
3 Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Players That Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Can Target In IPL 2023
Tripathi had a season to remember with Sunrisers Hyderabad in his very first year with the franchise. He scored 413 runs this season, a performance that earned him a call in the Indian T20I side for the Ireland tour. If CSK managed to buy him ahead of IPL 2023, he can be a great asset to the team. Tripathi played alongside MS Dhoni in his debut IPL season in 2017 for Rising Pune Super Giants. Tripathi can bat anywhere between 1 to 4 and can score at a healthy strike rate.
Former Indian pacer Irfan Pathanshared his opinions on Umran Malik’s inclusion in the India squad for T20 World Cup 2022. Pathan said that first, we should allow Umran Malik to make his debut. Then according to his performance, we should think about the further steps.
Umran Malik is among the fastest pacers that Indian cricket has seen so far. The right-arm pacer consistently bowls 150+ kmph deliveries. He plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL. He is yet to make his debut for the Indian team. Recently, he was part of the Indian quad for IND vs SA T20I series.
See How Umran Malik Goes When He Makes His Debut: Irfan Pathan
During a conversation on Star Sports, cricket commentator Irfan Pathan was questioned whether Umran Malik should be picked for the T20 World Cup 2022squad. To this, Pathan replied that we should first allow him to make his debut and then plan according to his performance.
“He (Umran Malik) has not yet played; he has still not made his debut. First make him debut, see how he goes when he makes his debut. But if he makes his debut and god forbid if it does not go well, don’t leave him aside. We have never had a bowler who bowls at 150 kph; now we have got that, so take him for the long haul carefully. You have to see what is his longevity, how long his fitness is going to take him.” Irfan Pathan said.
Pathan also suggested that if Malik bowls well during his debut, we should prepare him for T20 World Cup 2022. If he doesn’t, we should not leave him and prepare him for the long run.
“One thing he has got is raw pace, which you either have, or you don’t. You cannot teach anyone to bowl fast, whether it is Irfan Pathan or the world’s best mentor or coach, you can only make him better. You can do the fine-tuning; we have done that; the Indian team will make it even better. But if it is the question of the squad, get him to make his debut; if he does well, take him forward, and if he doesn’t do well, persist with him because you don’t get such a bowler every time.” Irfan Pathan further said.
Umran Malikexecuted a brilliant show in IPL 2022 for his team Sunrisers Hyderabad. The right-arm pacer scalped 22 wickets in 14 games at an average of 20.18. He finished as the team’s top wicket-taker and 4th highest wicket-taker in the tournament. He was slightly costly at his economy rate of 9.03.
Malik was also part of the IND vs SA T20I series. However, he did not get to play any game out of 5 games as India stuck to the same playing XI in all the matches. However, Malik is part of the forthcoming IND vs IRE T20I series. He is expected to make his debut during the two T20I matches against Ireland.
Rahul Tripathi, a right-handed batsman, earned his first national team call-up on Wednesday when he was chosen in the Indian T20I squad for the upcoming two-match series against Ireland, which begins on June 26.
Tripathi had not secured a berth in the squad for the series against South Africa after a strong IPL season with SunRisers Hyderabad, but he has now been picked in the team for the Ireland series.
It Is A Dream Come True For Me: Rahul Tripathi
Tripathi spoke to NDTV over the phone the day after receiving his call-up and discussed his feelings on being picked to the team.
“I am very happy and most importantly, it is a dream come true for me. Every cricketer, when he starts playing the game, aims to represent his country. Obviously, this is the biggest achievement of my life, to represent my country.
Surely, more good things to come and hopefully, there will be days when I am able to win games for my country. This is a proud moment for me,” Tripathi told NDTV.
When asked if he was sad that he was not picked in India’s team for the upcoming South Africa series, the batter said: “To be honest, I thought that I will get this opportunity but now I am happy that I have been given the opportunity now.
I knew if I keep performing, I’ll get the opportunity. I was not very disheartened. I knew if I keep performing, I’ll get the opportunity.”
Learnt A Lot From Brian Lara: Rahul Tripathi
The 31-year-old scored 413 runs at an average of 37.55 with a strike rate of 158.24 in 14 matches for SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022.
“I have always looked at the match that I am playing and the team I am representing, how I can make the team and how I can perform the best. I need to win the match for my country. It is a great opportunity for me. I want to enjoy this moment,” said the 31-year-old.
When asked about the time he spent with SRH batting mentor Brian Lara, Tripathi said: “I learnt a lot from him. It was a blessing for me, I had a great time. Definitely, all those chats and important tips really help in a game. Really enjoyed my time with him.”
