Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh, stated that he is unsure about his future in cricket after the conclusion of the ongoing IPL 2021 season. He is part of the KKR franchise but hasn’t played a single game in the UAE leg.
Harbhajan reckoned that he might consider taking up the role of a coach or a mentor if the Indian team or an IPL franchise has a requirement. The 41-year-old elaborated on his future during a conversation with the commentators in the match between KKR and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday.
“Don’t know if I’m going to play further but enjoying my time in KKR. Yeah obviously (if he’ll take up the role of a coach or a mentor in the future). Cricket has been the biggest thing that happened to me, I would like to serve Indian cricket in whatever way I can. Whether it’s coaching or a mentor, I’d be more than happy to do the needful and help the team,” Harbhajan Singh said.
Harbhajan Singh conferred with honorary Ph.D. in Sports by French University
The veteran off-spinner was conferred with an honorary Ph.D. in Sports during a convocation ceremony on Friday. He couldn’t attend the same since he is in the UAE for the IPL 2021 season but Harbhajan Singh stated that he was honoured after receiving the degree.
“If any institution accords respect, you accept that with utmost humility. If I have been conferred with honorary sports doctorate by the university, it is because I played cricket and people have showered their love and affection for that. I am honoured to be conferred with the degree,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.
In his playing career for India, Harbhajan Singh has picked up 417 wickets in 103 Tests, 269 wickets in 236 ODIs, and 25 wickets in 28 T20Is. In the IPL, he has taken 150 wickets in 163 matches so far.
