IPL 2021: Jason Roy Was Bitterly Disappointed Not To Be Playing For SRH: Kevin Pietersen

Cricketer turned commentator Kevin Pietersen revealed that England opener Jason Roy was left with disappointment to not play the first two games in the second half of IPL 2021.

Roy, who replaced David Warner as Sunrisers Hyderabad opener, made a brilliant start with the franchise by scoring a scintillating half-century against Rajasthan Royals.

Roy smashed 60 off 42 balls with the help of eight boundaries and a six as SRH won their second game of the tournament. Pietersen said that Roy had told him that it was great preparation for him ahead of the T20 World Cup in UAE.

“For Jason Roy to replace him and make a half-century in his first match, though, was very pleasing. We see things happening out here that you guys don’t. Roy is committed to training, committed to the warm-up for every match and has thrown himself into IPL life,” Pietersen wrote in his blog for Betway Insider.

“I spoke to him after the first two games and he was bitterly disappointed not to be playing, but he just said: ‘Listen, I’m here, and this is great preparation for the T20 World Cup’. He’d been practising his backside off and now he’s got his chance, which is great news for Sunrisers and for England,” Pietersen added.

Roy couldn’t carry forward his brilliant knock against RR as he departed for the scores of 2 & 10 in his next two innings.

Will SRH retain David Warner for IPL 2022?

Warner was removed from the captaincy after SRH could only register one win in the first leg of IPL 2021, and Williamson was reinstated back to the role.

However, Warner’s omission in the playing XI happened for the second time since he was axed from the captaincy role and it puts a question mark about his future with the Hyderabad outfit.

SRH are languishing at the bottom of the points table having won just two of their 12 games in the league so far.
