Mumbai Indians (MI) leg-spinner Piyush Chawla became India’s highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket when he got a wicket in MI’s final league game of IPL 2021 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He achieved the feat when he dismissed Mohammad Nabi in his first over.

Chawla was making his debut for the Mumbai franchise, his fourth franchise in the IPL so far. He snared Nabi’s wicket in the ninth over and overtook another legendary Indian spinner, Amit Mishra, to become the highest wicket-taker with 263 wickets.

He needed 249 games to breach Mishra’s record of 262 wickets in 236 matches. Chawla is fourth on the list of highest wicket-takers in IPL history as well, with 157 wickets. Although he only played one match in IPL 2021 season, he was impressive and played a role in MI’s 42-run win over SRH.

MI blaze past SRH but fail to qualify for playoffs

Mumbai Indians (MI) played with amazing intent and aggression to notch up their highest total in IPL history. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav were splendid with the bat, each getting into the eighties before falling. They put up 235 on the board after opting to bat first.

During the innings, Mohammad Nabi took five catches to become the first outfield player in IPL history to do so. If they were to qualify for the playoffs, MI needed to restrict SRH to under 65. But those hopes were crushed in the powerplay itself by Jason Roy and Abhishek Sharma.

SRH was always behind the eight ball in the run chase but they gave a great fight before going down. The playoffs will begin on October 10 with CSK taking on DC. The eliminator will see RCB go up against KKR on October 11.
