Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli was a dejected man after his side lost the opportunity to finish in the top two. They lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by four runs in a nail-biting finish and will remain in third place.
Thirteen runs were needed in the final over bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar but AB de Villiers failed to finish the job on a tough track in Abu Dhabi. Kohli mentioned that they were always in the game despite a tough middle-overs phase but fell short at the end.
“The intent should always be to get it done as soon as possible. We don’t want to stretch things too deep. Dev and Maxi set things up but Maxi’s run out was the key moment for us.”
“With AB you’re never out of the game, but it’s also a case of keeping the guy in the flow on strike. Shahbaz I think played a crucial knock at the stage and pulled us back into the game. It’s a game of small margins. Things could have gone anywhere and Sunrisers held their nerves to not allow us to get away.“
“Chahal’s bowling pretty well now” – Virat Kohli
The RCB skipper had special words of praise for Yuzvendra Chahal. The leg-spinner was left out of the T20 World Cup squad but has responded brilliantly so far to the axing.
“Chahal’s bowling pretty well now. Looks like he’s worked on his bowling with all the time off. Him bowling well is a good sign for the team,” he said.
RCB will next face Delhi Capitals (DC) on Friday.
