Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) put a dent in Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) chances of making it to the playoffs by defeating them in Match 40 here in Dubai on Monday. With RR’s defeat, four teams are now having identical figures on the points table.
SRH skipper Kane Williamson led his side to a comfortable 7-wicket victory while chasing a target of 165. They made a few changes to their side after their previous defeat. David Warner was dropped once more and Jason Roy was given his debut cap for the Hyderabad side.

He immediately impressed during the run chase. After taking a few balls to settle in, Roy took the attack on, particularly tearing into Chris Morris and Mustafizur Rahman. His partner, Wriddhiman Saha looked good until he threw his wicket away trying to go after part-timer, Mahipal Lomror.
Williamson joined Roy at the crease and took their side closer to the total. They had a couple of hiccups on the way but the Kiwi skipper stood tall and guided his side to their second victory of the season.
Earlier, RR’s decision to bat first seemed like it backfired as Evin Lewis fell early. That didn’t deter Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal as they carried on and launched a counterattack. The latter fell but Samson registered his second fifty in a row.

He eventually fell for 82 trying to steal a few runs in the death overs. Some good bowling from the Hyderabad franchise saw them restrict Rajasthan to 164/4. Siddharth Kaul, playing in place of Khaleel Ahmed, picked up two wickets and was the pick of the bowlers.
The 7-wicket win for SRH doesn’t change their position on the table but Rajasthan missed a chance to enter the top-four after the loss.

#SRH may be out of playoffs race but they can definitely make other teams chances worse. And they did today in #SRHvRR #SRHvsRR game. Well played Jason Roy and Williamson.

Today’s win mean SRH can qualify without even NRR coming into play, provided:
#SRH win all their remaining 4 games
#MI #RR #KKR #PBKS all win exactly one match each

What are you guys doing in RR Management, just tell us? Only youngsters can win 1-2 matches not tournaments.
You disappoint the Royals fans every time. Shame on you, we are tired of supporting you.#SRHvsRR | #RRvSRH
