Moises Henriques gave Punjab Kings (PBKS) their first breakthrough against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday afternoon in Sharjah. And it was the big wicket – that of RCB skipper Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli had been tied down by PBKS bowlers throughout his innings – he managed to hit two fours and a six in his 24-ball stay for 25 runs before Moises Henriques knocked his off-stump.
On the fourth ball of the 10th over, the right-hander looked to unleash himself on the Australia medium-pacer. Henriques, playing in his first game of the UAE leg, bowled an off-cutter on length outside off-stump. The ball moved in towards the batsman, but also kept low.
Virat Kohli missed his slog on the leg side as the ball sneaked through his bat-pad gap and hit the off-stump. He could only look back at his bat in frustration before taking the walk back to the dressing room.
Moises Henriques takes two wickets after 68-run opening stand
After electing to bat first, Virat Kohli started sedately as Devdutt Padikkal took the attack to PBKS bowlers, stroking them for fours and sixes taking advantage of the field restrictions. Kohli was given two lives by Punjab: skipper KL Rahul missed a stumping before Sarfaraz Khan dropped a catch of the RCB skipper.
RCB ended the powerplay at 55/0 with Padikkal scoring 34. The run rate, though, dipped after the powerplay. Kohli tried to up the ante with a slog over mid-wicket off Harpreet Brar.
Moises Henriques, however, bowled the RCB skipper, who departed for 25 runs off 24 balls; Daniel Christian, promoted up in the order to play the pinch-hitter’s role, fell for a golden duck as PBKS pulled the game back. At the time of writing, RCB are 69/2 at the 10-over mark.
