Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra thoroughly enjoyed the way Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, dismantled the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowler on Saturday night. Jaiswal blazed his way to a stunning 21-ball 50 inside the powerplay which helped set the platform for RR’s run chase.
Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored his maiden IPL century on the best batting track seen in the second leg so far. His timing was immaculate and so were his shots, which included five massive sixes. On the back of his hundred, CSK posted 189 but it wasn’t enough as another youngster, Jaiswal, stole the show.
“When you chase such a big total, you have to show the power play in the Powerplay. And here Yashasvi Jaiswal’s destruction of the opposition was enjoyable, whether it was Josh Hazlewood, Sam Curran, Shardul, or whoever you bowl. He totally destroyed them.”
“Everyone had come prepared for Evin Lewis and he came as an out of the syllabus question. He was sensational, that was the turning point of the game because if you score 81 runs in the powerplay, even the 190-run target becomes small,” Chopra said in his YouTube video.
Aakash Chopra satisfied with the changes made by Rajasthan Royals
With plenty of players underperforming, it was high time the RR team dropped the out-of-form players. They went in with as many as five changes, including the one that proved to be the game-changer. Shivam Dube was given his first opportunity in the UAE leg and he made it count with a 42-ball 64 studded with four fours and four sixes.
“Rajasthan made plenty of changes, they replaced everything in the house. Shivam Dube played, clap your hands. I was asking daily to play Shivam Dube and they played him. This time they played Mayank Markande as well. Akash Singh was played, Kartik Tyagi was not there – I am assuming he was injured.”
“Chris Morris and Liam Livingstone dropped, so you dropped your two underperformers. You brought in Glenn Phillips and David Miller, so you kept three overseas batsmen in your batting. Well done, I like that,” Chopra added.
The win takes Rajasthan to sixth place on the points table. They now have 10 points from 12 matches, similar to three other teams in the mid-table.
