Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and England Cricket Team have been dealt a huge blow as all-rounder, Sam Curran, has been ruled out of both the IPL 2021 and the T20 World Cup, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Tuesday.

Curran sustained a lower back injury during CSK’s match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on October 2, Saturday. He complained of back pain and was immediately taken for scanning. The results have confirmed the lower back injury which will keep him out of the two major tournaments.

He is currently in the UAE but will fly back home to the United Kingdom (UK) within the next two days. The ECB’s medical team will monitor his injury and conduct further scans. They will also do a full review by the end of the week to determine the extent of the injury.

Tom Curran has been brought into the England squad as the replacement for the T20 World Cup. Reece Topley has also been named as part of the reserves who will travel with the squad.

Several English players had pulled out of the IPL 2021 season due to bio-bubble fatigue. Those cricketers along with the team management have arrived at the team’s base in Muscat, Oman on Tuesday morning. They will stay in Oman till October 16 before heading to Dubai for the T20 World Cup.

“Absolutely loved my team with Chennai this season” – Sam Curran

Sam Curran left a heartfelt message after receiving the news. He appreciated the time he spent with the CSK players during the tough pandemic times, especially while living inside a strict bio-bubble. Curran stated that he will continue to watch the games and support his team.

Unfortunately I have received a gutting news that I will, unfortunately, be missing the remainder of the IPL season and the World Cup. Extremely gutted…absolutely loved my time with Chennai this season. The boys are doing extremely well. It hasn’t really sunk in yet but I’m leaving with the team in a fantastic space. The boys are playing really good cricket. I want to be supporting them from where I am in the next few days.

Once it’s all sunk in, I’ll definitely be supporting the team and I’m sure they can go all the way and lift the trophy. Just want to say a massive thank you to all the Chennai Super Kings fans, I’ve absolutely loved all your support in the last two seasons I’ve been playing. It won’t be long until I’m back running, bowling and batting in front of all you guys. I’ll be back stronger, until then stay safe. Cheers guys,” Curran told CSK.

Curran had an impressive first leg of the IPL 2021 season but the change in venues didn’t favor him. He endured a rough phase two in the UAE and was constantly left out in favor of Dwayne Bravo.
