Moeen Ali To Announce Retirement From Test Cricket- Reports

England all-rounder Moeen Ali is likely to announce his retirement from Test cricket in order to prolong his white-ball career.

34-year-old Moeen, who has played 64 Tests, has come to the conclusion of not continuing with the red-ball format as it keeps him away from home.

Moeen Ali told his decision to Chris Silverwood and Joe Root

In the upcoming months, Moeen is part of England’s T20 World Cup Squad and is potential inclusion in the Ashes in Australia.

According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the all-rounder has revealed his decision to head coach Chris Silverwood and England Test captain Joe Root.

Back in 2019, Moeen had said that he would take a break from Test cricket as he mentioned to refresh his batteries (energy) just after the Ashes at home.

Moeen Ali close to complete 3000 Test runs and 200 wickets

In his last Test against India, Moeen stood up as England’s vice-captain in Jos Buttler’s absence at the Kia Oval. The Birmingham-born player has scored 2914 runs at an average of 28.9 and claimed 195 Test wickets.

If he decides to play the Ashes, he could have the best chance to double his record of scoring 3000 Test runs and completing 200 wickets.

Moeen has five hundreds and 14 half-centuries to his name in Test cricket while he has 5 five-wicket hauls in his spectacular career in the longest format of the game.

According to ESPNcricinfo, nobody else in the top 25 wicket-takers in England’s history has an average as high as Moeen’s 36.66 . There will be a lot more to question about the timing of his decision or about his potential or many might even criticise him for opting for franchise cricket over Tests.

Moeen, who is currently playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021 in UAE, will only answer many of those questions which will reflect his career in the long run.

Moeen will continue to play county cricket but it is not sure whether he would play first-class cricket any more further.
