Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has surpassed Shane Warne’s record to become the oldest captain to win an IPL title after the win against KKR in the finals yesterday. Eoin Morgan won the all-important toss in the finals and sent CSK into bat first. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf Du Plessis were off to a fantastic start, and CSK was blowing away with the game as KKR had no answers.
CSK ended up with a score of 192 on the board, and KKR desperately needed their openers to fire from the outset. They did get off to an excellent start but started losing wickets after the 10th over-mark and ended up losing the final by 27 runs in the end. Faf Du Plessis bagged the man of the match award for his excellent 86 off 59 balls in the first innings.
MS Dhoni Closes In On Most Number Of IPL Titles As Captain
MS Dhoni has won four IPL titles already for the Chennai Super Kings in 2010, 2011,2018, and 2021 and he is second only to Rohit Sharma for the most successful IPL captain. Rohit Sharma has won five titles for Mumbai Indians already, and MS Dhoni will aim to break that record.
MS Dhoni, after the win yesterday, has become the oldest IPL captain to win a trophy as he is already 40 years old. The previous record was held by Australia’s Shane Warne, who captained Rajasthan Royals in 2008 and took them to their maiden title at 39 years of age. Adam Gilchrist is next on the list, winning the title for the Deccan Chargers in 2009 at 37 years of age.
MS Dhoni Confirms He Will Be Part Of CSK For The Next Two Years
MS Dhoni has confirmed that he will be part of the CSK set-up in the upcoming years either as a batsman until he retires or as a mentor for the side. Dhoni has been one of the best tacticians in the game, and he understands the game very well, which is very useful in captaining the side as well as in mentoring.
MS Dhoni will travel with the Indian team as a mentor for the upcoming T20 Worldcup 2021.
