MS Dhoni Joins Team India As Mentor For T20 World Cup 2021; BCCI Welcomes The 'KING'

Former India captain MS Dhoni has joined the national side ahead of the T20 World Cup, the BCCI welcomed the ‘KING’ on Sunday.

MS Dhoni, who recently led the Chennai Super Kings to the IPL 2021 title, was earlier appointed as the mentor of the Indian team for the mega-event. The 40-year-old was roped into this job considering the success he has had – he led India to the 2007 T20 World title and the 2011 World Cup triumph – and his immense experience.

The BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly even announced recently that MS Dhoni won’t charge any honorarium from the BCCI to mentor Indian team during the T20 World Cup 2021.

India will take on Pakistan in their opening encounter on October 24 in Dubai. They will then meet New Zealand, Afghanistan, and two other teams who will qualify from Round 1 in the Super 12 stage.

We are absolutely delighted to have MS Dhoni back: Virat Kohli

India captain Virat Kohli said the players are excited to have MS Dhoni in the dressing room. He added that the former skipper has been a mentor for all of them throughout the years, and his presence will only help the team further whether it’s with planning tactics or mentally preparing for the match.

“He (MS Dhoni) is quite excited about getting back into this environment. He’s always been a mentor for all of us when we were starting our careers through the time that he played with the team and now he has an opportunity to continue to do that same work again. Especially for the younger guys who are playing major tournaments, early stages in their careers, to just experience what he’s gained over the years, and just have conversations with him around the game,” Kohli said on Saturday.

“Such practical inputs, such intricate details of where the game is going and how we can improve our games by that 1 or 2% which always makes the difference when he’s in the leadership role in any team. So we are absolutely delighted to have him back in this environment and his presence will certainly boost the morale of the team even further and give us a lot more confidence than we already have as a team,” he added.
