RCB Should Retain Kyle Jamieson For Long Term; MS Dhoni Could Become CSK’s Coach – Brad Hogg Speaks About IPL 2022 Mega Auction

Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg speaks about a couple of players and their IPL franchises with regards to the IPL 2022 mega-auction. On Monday, a report in the Times of India stated that each team will be allowed 4 retentions for the mega auction ahead of the next season, which will see a couple of more teams added.

For the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), while skipper Virat Kohli and stalwart AB de Villiers are amongst the players certain to be retained, they do have to think over players for the other two spots – leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and seamer Mohammed Siraj are front-runners for it.

However, Brad Hogg reckons bowling all-rounder Kyle Jamieson, who was bought for a whopping INR 15 crores in the IPL 2021 auction, should be retained as he is a long-term prospect. Jamieson made his debut in the IPL this year; he was impressive – picking up 9 wickets in 7 matches, albeit on the expensive side with an economy of 9.21.

His IPL numbers aside, Jamieson has shown his class in Test cricket – he has snapped 46 wickets in 8 Tests, including a Man of the Match award in the WTC Final against India.

Brad Hogg is also confident that “Maharaja” MS Dhoni will not leave the Chennai Super Kings. However, the skipper may choose to retire from the IPL ahead of the next season. In that case, the chinaman believes, Dhoni will take up a coaching role.

CSK currently sits at the second spot on the points table with 5 wins and 2 losses before the tournament came to a halt. This year has been a major improvement for the side which failed to qualify for the playoffs last year. The inclusion of Moeen Ali at number 3 and the return of Suresh Raina have boosed the 3-time champions. But, MS Dhoni’s form with the bat still remains doubtful.

The second phase of the IPL 2021 is set to take place in the UAE in September and October.
