Salman Butt Reckons India Might Stick With The Same Combination, Doesn’t See Any Changes For Headingley Test

Salman Butt

Former Pakistan opener Salman Butt had reckoned that India will not make any changes unless the pitch looks like offering a lot more spin and expects them to stick with the combination. Virat Kohli has so far used the combination of four fast bowlers and one spin all-rounder and it has worked perfectly.

The Headingley pitch over the years has been a fast bowling pitch and the batsmen have felt the pitch like a paradise. The average scores on the ground in recent times have been above 300 and this will be a good contest between both teams. India will be a lot more confident after their historic win at Lord’s and has taken a lead of 1-0 in the five-match Test series as well.

Salman Butt Feels India Can Play An Extra Spinner In Case Of An Unfortunate Injury

Salman Butt reckoned that India will not make any changes unless it is a forced injury change or the pitch looks like offering spin which hasn’t been the case over the years at Leeds. Ravichandran Ashwin is yet to play a Test in the series and there have been a lot of talks if he could come into the side. At the moment, the chances of the off-spinner getting a game look bleak.

“I don’t see India making any changes, unless they want to rotate players and give someone else a chance. If there is some drastic change in the pitch, India can play an extra spinner or in case of an unfortunate injury also were might see some changes. Characteristically, the pitch at Leeds favours fast bowlers. If that remains the case, I don’t see India altering their line-up,” Salman Butt told on his YouTube Channel.

Salman Butt Reveals The Problems For England

Salman Butt mentioned the problems of England being not able to prepare a pitch that they can take advantage of. So far, the Indian quicks have looked far more formidable than the England seamers and the spinners are yet to play a role in the series. He added that Ashwin could replace Jadeja if India needs a better spin option.

“Maybe they might bring in (Ravichandran) Ashwin. (Ravindra) Jadeja did not bowl that well in the previous game. He bowled reasonably but not as well as expected of him.

“Otherwise, I don’t see any drastic changes being made in the Indian team. The problem for England is that, if they prepare a pitch that spins, they will be in trouble. But even on surfaces that they are currently playing, which is favouring the fast bowlers, India are doing better than them,” he added.

Shardul Thakur is fit and available for the third Test which brings a dilemma over Ishant Sharma’s position in the elevens despite doing well.
