Aakash Chopra reckoned that India might face issues going into the T20 World Cup 2021 with just five bowlers, and the part-time bowling of Virat Kohli might not be enough. Hardik Pandya was expected to be the sixth bowling option, but he hasn’t been bowling in the last few months, which has been a big concern for India with the balance.
Hardik Pandya did not bowl in the warm-up fixtures against England and Australia, and Virat Kohli rolled his arm over for two overs which could be handy in the first few games. He conceded just 12 runs in his two-over spell, and India will be able to now play with just five main bowlers.
“I Feel You Will Get Stuck” – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra mentioned that India might be stuck at one stage of the tournament with Hardik Pandya, not bowling. He explained that Jadeja will have to bowl in the middle overs, and hence bowl Virat Kohli in the same period of middle overs might affect the overall bowling of the Indian side.
“When you are playing with five bowlers, Jaddu bowls in the middle overs – after the 6th and before the 14th – now if he is also going to bowl in that and you want to get an over from Kohli as well, I feel you will get stuck,” Aakash Chopra told on his Youtube Channel.
“Indian Team Is Pegged Back A Little” – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra felt that Hardik now bowling will certainly have a toll on the Indian bowling combination as he doesn’t favour Ravindra Jadeja bowling his four-over quota in T20 cricket. India do not have a backup seaming all-rounder in the squad who can play the same role of Hardik Pandya.
“Team India’s balance is slightly awry, let’s be honest. If Hardik is not bowling, the Indian team is pegged back a little. Jadeja, the 4-over bowler in T20 cricket, is still a bit of a question mark,” he added.
India will play their first game against Pakistan on Sunday in the T20 World Cup 2021 super 12 stages.
