England opener Jason Roy felt that it is a shame on missing two of England’s biggest match-winners in Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, for the T20 World Cup 2021. Ben Stokes has taken an indefinite break from cricket to recover from his finger injury and also due to the mental illness he has been going through.
On the other hand, Jofra Archer has been ruled out for the entire year after suffering from an elbow injury and will not take part in the Ashes as well. Recently, Sam Curran joined the injured list, and his brother Tom Curran has replaced him in the squad. England has managed to win one warm-up fixture against New Zealand but has lost to India so far.
Jason Roy Feels There Is Enough Depth In the Squad
Jason Roy mentioned that it is a shame to not have Archer and Stokes in the T20 World cup squad and reckoned that the depth in their squad will nullify the absence of those two stars. He added that he was impressed with the warm-up game performances from the team’s point of view, although he did not get many runs with the bat.
“I wouldn’t say it’s a problem — it’s a shame. It’s definitely a shame, not having those two here, but you know they’re on the same path of getting fit and healthy again.
“You look at our depth of the squad now, the players we have, and it’s still extremely impressive. The boys showed that they have done well in the warm up game, and they’ve been training extremely hard, so I don’t think it’s a worry at all,” Jason Roy told the Indian Express.
Jason Roy Confident With His Team Mate’s Skills
Jason Roy mentioned that England has a full-strength squad that can step up to the challenges and praised the skill levels of the players in the squad. He was very confident England have the skillset to make it through to the final stages of the tournament.
“We’ve got players that will definitely 100 per cent step up, rise to the occasion. They have more than enough skill. I can tell you that from training, There’s more than enough skill that can take us all the way.” He added
England is set to play their first game against West Indies on 23rd October in the Super 12 stages.
