The Bangladesh spin bowling all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has surpassed legendary Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga to become the leading wicket-taker in the T20 International Cricket.
The Bangladesh all-round sensation Shakib Al Hasan who is regarded as one of the best all-rounders of the modern generation achieved this milestone in the second match of ICC Men’s T20 World 2021 against Scotland National Cricket Team which commenced at Al Amerat Cricket Ground Oman Cricket (Ministry Turf 1) on Sunday, October 17.
Shakib Al Hasan who is also known as the best player produced by Bangladesh cricket made his T20 International debut in 2006 and since then he has just kept improving himself. Both with the bat and with the ball Shakib has won several big games for his team.
Shakib Al Hasan Goes Past Lasith Malinga To Become Leading Wicket Taker In T20Is
Legendary Sri Lankan speedster who recently announced his retirement from all forms of the game was recognised as one of the most fierce bowlers.
In his massively successful career, Malinga scalped 107 wickets in 84 games at an average of 20.79 economy of 7.42 and strike rate of 16.8. The fast bowling legend was also able to bag two 5-wicket hauls in his career.
Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan dismissed Scotland players Michael Leask and Richie Berrington to reach the 108 wicket milestone in the T20 Internationals.
Overall the left-hander has played 89 T20 International games and bowled 328.3 overs scalping 108 wickets at an average of 20.38 economy of 6.70 and strike rate of 18.2.
Shakib has also bagged one 5-wicket haul and four 4-wicket hauls in his enormously successful career. The 34-year-old has very good batting stats too as he has scored T20I 1763 runs for Bangladesh at an average of 22.89 and strike rate of 121.41.
Notably, other than Malinga and Shakib no other bowler in the history of T20 International Cricket has picked 100+ wickets. The closest to Shakib and Malinga in the list is New Zealand pacer Tim Southee who has 99 wickets under his belt in 83 games. Following him on the list are former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi with 98 wickets and Afghanistan spin bowling sensation Rashid Khan with 95 scalps.
Also, after Shakib Al Hasan became the highest wicket-taker in T20 Internationals, the leading wicket-taker in all three formats are spinners. As Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan is the top wicket-taker in Tests and ODIs.
