Leg-spinner Adil Rashid castled the dangerous Andre Russell for a 2-ball duck when England and West Indies clashed on Saturday in Dubai. Adil Rashid was brought on in the attack as late as the 11th over by captain Eoin Morgan; the leggie struck immediately on his first ball with the big fish.
It was a slider from Adil Rashid – released from the front of the hand – and it went straight in the line, which Russell misjudged as he played for the turn.
As Russell looked to defend it with little feet movement, the ball snuck between the batsman’s bat and pad, to crash into the middle stump.
West Indies crumble for 55
While the toss didn’t go their way, as they were asked to bat first by Eoin Morgan, West Indies have only themselves to blame for their forgettable night with the bat. Evin Lewis did hit a six in the first over off Moeen Ali, but then the innings crumbled.
Chris Woakes deceived Lewis with a slower delivery before Ali struck twice with the wickets of Lendl Simmons and Shimron Hetmyer, both fell trying to hit out the off-spinner.
After stroking three boundaries, Chris Gayle was the next man to fall, to a short ball from Tymal Mills, leaving West Indies reeling at 31/4 at the end of the powerplay.
Chris Jordan accounted for the wicket of Dwayne Bravo before Mills got rid of Nicholas Pooran. And then Adil Rashid hit West Indies hard with three wickets – Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, and Obed McCoy – in a space of 8 balls. The leg-spinner castled Ravi Rampaul for his fourth of the night as West Indies were bowled out for 55!
