The Script Is Not Always Written That Way – Sunil Gavaskar Emphasis On End Of Virat Kohli’s Captaincy For RCB

Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar felt disappointed for Virat Kohli to have ended his captaincy in RCB colours without any IPL titles despite scoring tons of runs. Virat Kohli is often recognized as the epitome of consistency, and he is leading the run chart for the overall highest run-scorer in IPL history.

Over the years, he has broken numerous records in IPL, and 2016 was his most productive season, where he kept piling up runs. With 973 runs in the season which is still a record, he took RCB into the finals but couldn’t get past the line.

“Everybody Wants To Finish On A High” – Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar felt hard for Virat Kohli on ending up with no IPL trophies as captain and mentioned that it could happen at times. He also added that the fans’ wishes aren’t fulfilled always, and there could be some sad ending to great careers too.

“It certainly is (disappointing). Everybody wants to finish on a high. Individually, you want to finish on a high. But these things don’t always happen according to what you wish, or your fans wish,” Sunil Gavaskar told on Star Sports.

Sunil Gavaskar Explains Not Everybody Will End Up With Good Fortune

Sunil Gavaskar revealed two examples of great players missing out on their last game, including the likes of Sir Don Bradman, who couldn’t end up with a batting average of 100. He also explained Sachin Tendulkar missing out a century on his 200th test by just 4 runs.

“Look at what happened to Sir Don Bradman. Just 4 runs needed (for 100 average), he gets out for zero in his last innings. Look at what happened to Sachin Tendulkar. He would have wanted to finish with a hundred (in his last Test), but he got 79 in his 200th Test match.

“The script is not always written that way. Not everybody has this great fortune of going on a high,” he added.
