Indian women’s team opener Smriti Mandhana scored her maiden Test hundred against Australia women’s team in the ongoing pink-ball Test in Queensland.
The 25-year-old Mandhana, who is playing just in her third Test match, played a whirlwind knock against one of the strongest bowling attack in the world.
Mandhana added 20 more runs to her overnight score of 80 to reach the three-figure mark for the first time in the oldest format.
Smriti Mandhana survived dismissal in the early part of Day 2
Mandhana pulled Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry for a four to complete her maiden Test hundred as she survived a dismissal against the same bowler in the 46th over.
Perry had got the left-handed batter caught on the second ball of her over but she had overstepped that gave the Indian player a life to reach the milestone.

On Day 1, Mandhana started with plenty of brisk shots as she was involved in a 93-run stand with Shafali Verma before the teenager holed out to Tahlia McGrath at mid-off with a tired shot.
Mandhana could have scored her first hundred in Australia on Day 1 itself if the play had not taken interventions because of bad light on a couple of occasions. However, it is said “Better late than never” and that is what the Indian opener will be delighted to achieve her goal.

Well that is superb, Smriti Mandhana. I remember seeing her for the first time in the 2014 Test against England at Wormsley and being blown away by how good she looked. She now looks even better and has a Test century to her name. Bravo! #AUSvIND
